今月初めにDRMサーバがダウンし、アクティベーションと起動に問題が生じていたTrashmastersとAkellaの「Postal III」ですが、新たにシリーズのクリエイターであるお馴染み“Running With Scissors”が今回の問題に言及し、「Postal III」のSteam販売が正式に終了となったことが明らかになりました。

Running With Scissorsの報告によると、今回の販売終了は開発元のTrashmastersとパブリッシャーAkellaが、前述したDRM“Act Control”のサーバダウンに対応しなかったことに加え、Running With ScissorsがSteam版の販売に関する権限を持っていなかったため、DRMフリー化が果たされないまま販売停止に至ったもの。

余談ながら、Running With Scissorsが直接開発に関与しなかった「Postal III」は、ゲームとして極めて品質が低く、Akella側がRunning With Scissorsの改善要求にも応じてこなかったため、“Postal”シリーズの中では存在そのものが無かった作品として扱われており、予てからRunning With Scissorsが本作を名指しで買わないよう求めていたほか、最新作「POSTAL 4: No Regerts」の発表時には、名作“POSTAL 2”の真の続編として4作目をアナウンスし、3作目の存在は世に知られていないと強調していました。

こういった背景から、Running With Scissorsはようやくゴミの販売が終わったとして喜びのコメントを発表しており、公式Discordにて販売終了を祝う限定ロール“Rest in Piss Postal3”の配布を含むパーティが行われています。

With Postal 3's DRM issues and overall shittiness of the game itself, the game is officially no longer being sold on Steam.

We didn't have control over the page, so we couldn't make it free before the DRM issues began.
