予てから、腕に記されたルーン文字のタトゥー等から息子の名前に関する様々な憶測が飛び交っていた新生「God of War」ですが、新たに本作のE3 2016ゲームプレイトレーラーが遂に1,500万再生を突破し、Santa Monica Studioがこれを祝うE3オーバチュアライブの音源データ（mp3）を期間限定で公開。さらに、この音源データから前述したクレイトスの息子の名前が浮上し話題となっています。

これは、公開されたmp3データのコメントに“An introduction to Kratos and Atreus”の文言が発見されたもので、これに併せて本作の開発を率いるおなじみCory Barlog氏が“Atreus”をクレイトスの息子の名前だと確認しています。（※ これに伴い息子が北欧神話のティールだとする説が覆された）
